The Department of Global Languages, Cultures and Societies helps students understand and critically engage with complex global flows of people, goods, ideas and social challenges. Students develop critical thinking, language fluency and intercultural competence while gaining comprehensive knowledge of global issues. These skills prepare graduates for careers in business, economic development, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, international organizations and cultural industries. Our three main objectives are to organize cultural events, host workshops and promote existing French and francophone programming in our region.

The Department of Global Languages, Cultures and Societies Academic Resources
The Department of Global Languages, Cultures and Societies encourages students to extend their learning into the community. Recent student projects include:
- Digitizing oral histories of Japanese Americans through an internship with the Japanese American Citizens League-St. Louis Chapter
- Promoting French and Francophone culture through the Centre Francophone
- Documenting Asian American experiences of identity and belonging in the Midwest
- Assisting faculty research on Black entrepreneurship in St. Louis
This student club builds global community through intercultural exchange and dialogue. Monthly meetings connect students who share interests in diverse cultures and worldwide experiences. Activities include international cooking demonstrations, discussions about teaching opportunities abroad and explorations of cultural practices, from holidays to dating customs.
James R. & Consuelo E. Gallagher Endowed International Languages Scholarship
Consuelo E. Gallagher taught Spanish language and culture at Webster from 1945 until her retirement in 2004. Her dedication, philanthropy and affection are woven into the fabric of Webster University's history. She created this scholarship to support students who study a non-native language.
Rosita Endowed International Languages Scholarship
Consuelo Gallagher established this scholarship to honor her mother's memory and promote internationalism through language and cultural studies. The scholarship supports students studying non-native languages.
Marianne and Peter Gleich Endowed Scholarship for the Study of the French Language
This scholarship helps students pursue their passion for French language studies. "It has long been a goal of ours to help expand the horizons of others through education," the Gleichs explain, highlighting their commitment to global learning.
Jeanelle and Mark Wiley Scholarship
This scholarship supports French language study or study abroad in Francophone countries.
Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET)
Young professionals can live and work in communities across Japan while serving as U.S. cultural ambassadors through this program.
Argentina Teaching Exchange
Webster students can teach English in Argentina for a semester, experiencing life and work in a vibrant cultural environment.
Leader in Global Education
Webster extends beyond its St. Louis campus with locations across the United States and abroad. The University's innovative curriculum, state-of-the-art facilities and world-class faculty provide students with diverse, real-world learning experiences.
