Program Description
Webster University’s Master of Arts in Education and Innovation prepares professionals to lead creative, technology-enhanced learning and change initiatives across educational, organizational, and community contexts. The program draws on creativity studies, learning sciences, instructional design, and emerging learning technologies; including responsible applications of artificial intelligence (AI); to develop advanced knowledge, skills, and innovative competencies in educational design and innovation.
Designed for educators, trainers, instructional designers, organizational leaders, and other professionals in the public, private, corporate, military, and not-for-profit sectors, the MA in Education and Innovation bridges theory and practice by connecting online or on-campus learning with real-world professional environments. The program emphasizes transformative learning, experiential design, interdisciplinary problem-solving, and ethical technology integration to address complex local and global challenges.
Students develop expertise in creative problem-solving, instructional methods and technologies, teamwork, facilitation, and change process management, while learning to transfer innovation across diverse learning systems. Graduates are prepared to foster and sustain a culture of innovation in multi-faceted learning environments, workplaces, and community contexts.
Program Learning Outcomes
Candidates completing the MA in Education and Innovation will be able to:
- PLO 1: Creativity & Innovation
Promote, inspire, and cultivate creativity and innovative thinking for learning, service, and leadership, informed by principles from creativity studies and the learning sciences. - PLO 2: Instructional Methods, Technologies & AI
Apply instructional methods, learning technologies, and AI-supported design tools to support transformative learning, interdisciplinary problem-solving, and planet-sustainable solutions to local and global issues. - PLO 3: Leadership & Facilitation
Develop and demonstrate competencies as design team leaders and learning facilitators in educational, organizational, and community contexts. - PLO 4: Lifelong Learning & Professional Growth
Engage in lifelong learning for continuous improvement in professional practice, ethical innovation, and collaborative leadership. .
Summary of Assessment Plan
The assessment plan for the MA in Education and Innovation evaluates student mastery of program learning outcomes across four integrated topical areas:
- Theory and Foundations of Learning, Creativity, and Innovation
- Methodologies, Technologies, and AI-Supported Design for Innovation
- Instruction, Leadership, and Facilitation for Innovation
- Evaluation, Research, and Reflective Professional Practice
Requisite program competencies are assessed through signature key assignments embedded within required courses aligned to each topical area. These assessments evaluate students’ ability to integrate theory, applied design, instructional technologies, creativity frameworks, and professional practice.
An overall program-level competencies review is conducted in the capstone course, EDIN 6001: Integrated Studies in Education and Innovation, where students complete a comprehensive ePortfolio demonstrating mastery of program learning outcomes and alignment with relevant professional standards.

Up to 9 hours of approved transfer graduate courses from other universities or in-service courses may be included in the program.
